Funeral and memorial services honoring the late U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have been finalized, with tributes set to take place next week in both Washington, D.C., and his home state of South Carolina.
The details were announced Tuesday morning by the office of Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, who was recently appointed to complete the remainder of his Senate term following the longtime lawmaker’s death earlier this month.
The public memorial events will begin on Monday, July 28, in Washington, D.C., where Graham’s legacy of more than three decades in Congress will be recognized. The day will start with an arrival ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, honoring his 31 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
Following the Capitol ceremony, a funeral service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral. Organizers have announced that President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a tribute recognizing Graham’s public service and longstanding political career.
After the Washington service concludes, Graham’s remains will be transported to South Carolina on the evening of July 28 in preparation for memorial events in his home state the following day.
On Tuesday, July 29, South Carolina will pay tribute to the late senator with a funeral procession featuring a law enforcement honor presentation and an F-16 flyover conducted by the 169th Fighter Wing of the McEntire Joint National Guard Base. A church service will follow before Graham is laid to rest during a private family burial ceremony in Pickens County, South Carolina.
The funeral arrangements come as South Carolina continues to mourn the loss of one of its most influential political figures. Graham served in Congress for more than three decades and was widely recognized for his work on national security, judicial matters, and foreign policy throughout his tenure.
Following his death, Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham to fill the remainder of her brother’s Senate term. On Monday, she announced that she intends to seek election to a full six-year term after receiving encouragement from President Trump.
In a statement released alongside the funeral details, Darline Graham expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the services.
“I am grateful to all those who have come together to help honor and remember Lindsey,” she said.
She also thanked President Trump and several organizations for their support in planning the tributes.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to President Trump and his team, Washington National Cathedral, Senate leadership, First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Senate Sergeant at Arms for going above and beyond to ensure these will be honorable tributes to Lindsey.”
The memorial services are expected to draw political leaders, current and former colleagues, military representatives, family members, and friends as they gather to celebrate Graham’s life, public service, and enduring legacy.
