The St. Catharines and Niagara Region hockey communities are mourning the tragic passing of Dawson Abrahams, a talented hockey player and beloved teammate who died on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 21 following a fatal hockey-related incident.
Dawson’s unexpected passing has left his family, friends, teammates, coaches, classmates, and the many people who followed his hockey journey devastated by the loss of a young man remembered for his passion, dedication, and positive impact on those around him.
Born on December 27, 2003, Dawson was a graduate of Eden High School and a first-year student at Redeemer University, where he continued to pursue his education while following his lifelong passion for hockey.
Throughout his hockey career, Dawson was known for his commitment, hard work, and determination to improve. He developed his skills through years of dedication and earned recognition as a respected player in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) with the Pelham Panthers.
During his time with the team, Dawson earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and opponents through his competitive spirit, strong work ethic, and love for the game. He was admired not only for his ability on the ice but also for the character and sportsmanship he displayed.
From 2019 to 2023, Dawson was part of the RU Hockey program, where he continued to grow as both an athlete and a leader. His commitment to his teammates and his ability to bring people together made him an important part of the hockey community.
During the 2025–2026 season with the Redeemer Royals, Dawson had a standout year, recording 11 goals and 31 points in 21 games. His impressive performance earned him the Rookie of the Year honor, recognizing his skill, dedication, and contributions to the team.
Beyond his accomplishments in hockey, Dawson was remembered as a kind, humble, and hardworking person. Friends, teammates, and coaches described him as someone who encouraged others, made people feel welcome, and brought a positive presence wherever he went.
