A man has died and multiple others were injured following an overnight mass shooting at a lounge in southeast Denver, Colorado, prompting a major police investigation.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight at Ultra Lounge East, located at 9755 East Hampden Avenue. Denver Police officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find a chaotic scene outside the business, with crime scene tape later placed around the area as investigators began collecting evidence.
According to police, eight people were transported to hospitals with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. One man who was also injured in the shooting was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said during a news conference that the shooting occurred in both the patio area of the lounge and the parking lot. Investigators believe many of the people involved had gathered at the location as part of an after-party following an earlier disturbance in neighboring Aurora.
Chief Thomas said authorities believe at least two firearms were used during the shooting. Police are continuing to work to identify suspects, determine what led to the violence, and establish the full sequence of events.
