
The West Hartford, Connecticut, community is mourning the passing of Shawn W. Daly, a longtime resident, community volunteer, and chairman of the West Hartford Republican Town Committee, who died at the age of 59.
The West Hartford Republican Town Committee announced his passing on Friday, sharing a statement expressing deep sadness over the loss of their chairman and offering condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by his years of service.
“It is with profound sadness that the Republican Town Committee of West Hartford announces the passing of our chairman, Shawn W. Daly,” the committee shared.
Daly was a familiar and respected figure in West Hartford, where he lived for more than 50 years. Beyond his leadership role in local politics, he dedicated much of his life to serving the community through volunteer work, civic organizations, and youth programs.
He was survived by his wife, Eileen, and daughter, Shannon. Funeral arrangements and an official obituary are expected to be announced by the family.
Throughout his career, Daly built a reputation as someone committed to helping others. Professionally, he served as Head of Group Retirement Experience and Product Management for MML Investors Services LLC, a MassMutual-owned financial services company.
Daly graduated from Conard High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Connecticut. He later received an MBA in Managing in the Global Economy from Excelsior University in Albany, New York.
His dedication to West Hartford extended far beyond his professional life. He served on the West Hartford Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and was president of the West Hartford Girls Basketball League. He also contributed to the West Hartford Girls Soccer League as a board member and juniors division supervisor.
For more than two decades, Daly was involved with the Tournament Executive Committee for the Travelers Championship, a PGA Tour event that supports charitable causes throughout Connecticut. He also served as vice chairman of the West Hartford Environmental & Conservation Commission, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and participated in several civic organizations, including the Jaycees.
Friends and community members have shared heartfelt tributes, remembering Daly as a dedicated neighbor, leader, and friend. Former West Hartford Town Council member Mary Fay expressed her sadness over his passing, recalling how their friendship began long before politics and how Daly became involved in community leadership after asking how he could serve.
Daly’s unexpected passing has left many in West Hartford grieving the loss of a man who spent decades giving his time and energy to improve his community.
The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
Shawn W. Daly will be remembered for his commitment to public service, his love for West Hartford, and the lasting impact he made through his volunteer efforts and leadership.
